Cane Storage as Home Decor

I’m fortunate in that I don’t need my canes all the time–only in my bad stretches. After I recovered from my first major crash, my husband suggested hanging my cane(s) on our wall, as a reminder of how far I’d come. I loved the idea!

In our old house, we set up three hooks by our bed, and my canes and walking sticks hung there. Not only were they fun to have out and a good reminder, but when I inevitably crashed again, they were within easy reach.

With our move several months ago (and less wall space in our little farm hand’s room), I’ve been on the lookout for a new place to keep my canes. I finally found a solution in the form of an antique basket umbrella holder I spotted at a fall fair! It’s not the most creative, but I love how it looks in our front entry, and how easily I can grab a cane when I need it.

A basket umbrella stand with green, red, and blue pieces woven through the top, and two canes and a pair of walking sticks. It sits next to a wooden coat tree, with a black-framed oval mirror on the gray wall behind.

As an added bonus, the colors in the basket match a little shoe mat I’d made when my kids were little (I traced their little shoes and painted each pair in the color they loved most: green, blue, and red). It also goes well with our coat tree, which is an easy way to make an entryway more accessible to guests!

Do you have a creative way to store your medical supplies or canes? I’d love to hear about them!
